BB cream is an easy-to-use makeup all-in-one product that contains moisturizer, foundation, primer, and sunblock. It is loved for how fast and easy it is to use. According to Future Market Insights, the Global BB cream market size is expected to grow from $ 2.5 billion to over $ 5.5 billion by the end of 2027. This is evidence that people should expect a wide range of products from manufacturers.
Can You Use BB Cream at Night?
Because of the product’s ingredients, I thought it to be safe to use while transitioning for my day and night use. I wanted to find out if I can safely use BB cream at night and what the effect would be on my skin.
Blemish Balm creams are great for day use, especially when looking to reduce the number of products because they combine foundation and primer and save time. It has moisturizers infused in it and sunblock, which offers protection to the skin during the day.
At night, it is better to use face creams that have fewer and lighter ingredients to ensure that the skin pores can “breathe” at night. The skin needs to rejuvenate and get rid of toxins from makeup and beauty products used and environmental sources of dirt. Night creams should have a smoothing effect so that the skin does not lose too much water.
BB Cream Ingredients
Some recommended ingredients for night creams include hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, retinol, and melatonin. Hyaluronic acid keeps the skin smooth because it helps retain moisture, while vitamin C protects the skin and prevents wrinkle formation. All the other ingredients will depend on skin type, whether dry, oily, combination skin, or mature skin, as each of these need a specific beauty routine.
BB cream contains ingredients such as skin protectants, vitamins, and antioxidants, moisturizers that include types such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, panthenol, and glycerine. These ingredients are great for the skin while sleeping because they will rejuvenate the skin and keep it moisturized so that it remains smooth without losing water.
Other ingredients in BB creams may be SPF, which may not be necessary at night as there are hardly any UV rays during that time. It may also contain brighteners such as niacinamide and skin firming components such as hydrolyzed collagen and peptides. This will work well for the skin because as the skin rejuvenates, then it will remain firm.
Using BB Creams At Night
Blemish Balm creams can safely be used on the skin at night, especially for very light creams that are not heavy. However, they can cause breakouts when used, especially on oily skin or sensitive skin. The reason is that BB creams contain color, and these pigments cover the pores to create a smooth and finished appearance.
The covering of the pores causes dirt to build up in the pores, which then causes an infection, and pimples form. This is why it is advisable to remove BB cream before sleeping to allow the skin pores to breathe and detoxify efficiently.
I found that my skin thrived with blemish balm cream at night as long as I did not have it on for too many days. If I used the cream at night and took it off the next couple of nights, I would not suffer breakouts. If I used it on consecutive nights, I would suffer from mild breakouts, and my skin would feel much oilier than usual.
Night BB Creams
Some creams are for night use. Like there are different types of creams for different skin types, there are different BB creams for other times of the day. These creams designed for night use do not have SPF because they form a protective shield over the face to prevent UV rays from getting to the skin. That shield is not necessary at night and can cause breakouts if used.
BB night creams will not have SPF because the ingredient is not necessary. Dr. Jart+ BB Night Beauty Balm is a BB cream designed for night use, so it does not have SPF and has a little color to provide minimal tint to allow the skin to recover. The product is lighter than most because it does not provide full coverage.
A BB cream that can translate from day to night will be lighter than most other creams. Maybelline Dream Pure Skin Clearing BB Cream, 8-in-1 Skin Perfecting Beauty Balm is that perfect day-to-night BB cream because it has a sheer tint that provides sufficient coverage while being light enough for night use.
While choosing a BB night cream, I go for one that caters to my skin type while offering the benefits I would get from any other night cream based on my needs.
When Is the Best Time To Use BB Creams
Day use is always best when using Blemish Balm creams because it offers a finished look while offering sun protection and keeps the skin moisturized. The skin needs different levels of moisturization during the day compared to nighttime because of the exposure to the environment. During the day, heavier moisturizers work better, while at night, lighter moisturizers keep the skin soft and supple and allow the pores to detoxify.
What To Look Out For When Choosing BB Creams
Blemish Balm creams work differently for different skin types. Dry skin types should go for creams with a lot of moisturizing capabilities and those with humectant ingredients. These ingredients draw water from the atmosphere and keep the skin hydrated.
For oily skin, water-based creams are best since they will not increase the oil level on the face. Kaolin clay, for example, is a good ingredient for BB creams for oily skin as it absorbs the oil in the skin while keeping the tint even.
For combination skin, healthy ingredients for the skin, such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin c will help keep the skin moisturized and supple. For mature skin, BB creams with antioxidants and high SPF will protect wrinkle formation.
Removing BB Cream
When removing Bb cream, I use the regular makeup removal products and procedures with my other cosmetics, such as foundation.
- Makeup Removing Wipes
Makeup wipes are great for removing BB cream quickly as the cream is very light. It is always best to use alcohol-free wipes as these can be drying. They are also great when tired or when traveling and need a quick removal process.
- Micellar Water
Micellar water is a winner when removing makeup because it hydrates the skin after cleansing it from the makeup. A quick wipe with the water on cotton wool will thoroughly clean the face.
- Cleansing Oils
Cleansing oils are rarely used to clean BB cream because they are a deep makeup cleansing product. However, they are beneficial for dry skin because they moisturize the skin while they cleanse it.
- Toner
After cleansing, using a toner will remove any residual cream in the pores and tighten them, which helps with my appearance.
- Moisturiser
I then use a moisturizer that works for my skin type. If it is during the day, I will use a day cream moisturizer and at night, a night-based cream moisturizer.
Final Thoughts
BB cream is a great coverup product and is also appropriate for night use. However, it is wise to use a cream with ingredients that will work for night use. This is because the ingredients used will benefit the skin while providing a beautiful finish. Using a day BB cream at night may cause breakouts because the ingredients will protect the skin from day-based environmental factors such as the sun and pollutants.
