Makeup Tips After Your Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Makeup Tips After Your Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Facial cosmetic surgeries or treatments often result in scars, bruises, redness, or skin discoloration. You might feel inclined to immediately use makeup to conceal these marks following a facial procedure, but it’s advisable to hold off. Applying makeup prematurely can lead to infections, exacerbate scarring, or decelerate the healing trajectory.

The act of putting on makeup can exert pressure on the skin, potentially causing a surgical incision to reopen. Ensuring a rapid and seamless recovery minimizes scar visibility and prevents further issues. Here are tips to help you look your best while taking care of your skin following facial cosmetic surgery.

Opt for Mineral Cosmetics

Mineral makeup products often come in the form of loose powder rather than being pressed, which encourages a soft application technique. For those who find dark mascaras irritating, clear gels can enhance lash length and thickness without using color pigments and typically exclude other irritating ingredients. Products labeled as “hypoallergenic” or “for sensitive skin” are advisable to look for.

In the context of applying makeup after Botox Treatments, consider your skin’s sensitivity. Mineral foundations are ideal for sensitive skin, offering a gentle coverage that won’t aggravate surgical scars. It’s also wise to choose a non-comedogenic foundation to prevent pore blockages and additional irritation on sensitive areas.

Using loose mineral powder over pressed powder is recommended, and selecting products specifically designed for hypoallergenic or sensitive skin use can help avoid applying harsh substances on the skin.

Choosing Colors

Certain colors are more effective at concealing discoloration than others. Typically, complementary colors, or those directly opposite one another on the color wheel, are known to neutralize each other when applied in makeup. For instance, a green concealer can be remarkably effective for covering up redness in the skin, while purple concealer tends to hide yellowish bruises well. On the other hand, for purple bruises, a yellow concealer is usually the best option.

When it’s safe to apply eye makeup again, opting for a blue eyeliner can be beneficial as it helps reduce the appearance of redness and dark circles. In contrast, black eyeliner might accentuate redness due to its stark appearance.

Be selective with your eyeshadow choices post-surgery. Eyeshadows in pink or red shades can enhance redness, and shimmery eyeshadows not only spotlight discoloration but their ingredients might irritate skin that is still in the healing process

Concealing Bruises

The disappearance of bruising post-plastic surgery might take more time than initially anticipated. In certain instances, your skin may require weeks or even months to regain its “normal” appearance. For those worried about the visibility of bruises following a facelift or another surgical procedure, makeup options are available to mask these imperfections.

Seek makeup that offers thorough coverage or is buildable according to your needs. There are brands explicitly created for hiding bruises or other skin concerns, including tattoos you wish to conceal. This type of corrective makeup is typically applied before your regular foundation and powder.

Exercise Caution During Removal

When removing makeup from the face, proceed with extra caution following facial plastic surgery. Opt for a gentle makeup remover designed for sensitive skin to achieve optimal results. Avoid any rubbing or pulling at the incision areas, as this could lead to infection or irritation. Rather, lightly pat away the makeup using a soft cloth moistened with warm water until completely clean. Refrain from scrubbing your face and be careful not to tug at any skin healing around the incision sites.

For individuals who have undergone blepharoplasty, removing eye makeup can pose challenges due to the products used and the intensity of the removal motions. Use a natural makeup remover or a gentle cloth, taking special care throughout this process.

Endnote

Makeup can be applied after facial plastic surgery, but it should be done carefully. Adhering to the advice above will assist in properly nurturing your skin and preventing any complications while you heal.
