Some gingers (people with naturally red hair) loath this question. They know that probably half of the people they meet, think about whether they have red pubes.
Now I know this isn’t fair and they can’t to much about it, but most of us (including me) are just curious! It isn’t out of anything else but curiosity that people want to know if a ginger have red pubes.
So, The advice is probably to not ask any guy or girl with red hair this question… It is safer to just look up the answer online!
Luckily I have a friend who is a natural ginger and was more than happy to share the anwer with me! Below is what I found out.
Do gingers have ginger pubes?
She said that I wasn’t the first to ask her that! She luckily also said that she didn’t mind answering because she knew a lot of people had this question. Now of course she wouldn’t answer a stranger on the streets, but if a friend with genuine interest like me askes her, she answeres the question. And she said the famous words: “yes we do have ginger pubes but that doesn’t mean that it is the case for every ginger out there.”
So, do gingers genuinly have ginger pubes? Yes, most ginger women do also have ginger pubes. That someone is ginger doesn’t necessarily mean they have red pubes. Due to genetics, it can be that a ginger has brown pubes or even dark black. But in general, it’s true that redheads do also have red pubes.
How do genetics play a role in ginger pubic hair color?
Hair color (and therefore pubic hair color) is the result of eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin and pheomelanin are types of melanin. Ginger hair results from a genetic variant that causes the cell to produce pheomelanin. The genetic variant causes the melanocortin 1 receptor to function differently on melanocytes (a cell in the skin that produces and contains melanin), producing less eumelanin and more pheomelanin which thus causes red hair.
How does this tie in with pubic hair color…? The color of your pubic hair is closest to the natural color of your eyebrows. So, if you see a person with red hair and he/she has red eyebrows, you can be almost certain the he or she has ginger colored pubic hair as well.
How common is red pubic hair
The color of the pubic hair almost always is the same as the hair you have on your head (or your eyebrows which are a very good indicator). But as you just read, this is not always entirely the case. It all depends on amount of melanin in your body so it can be that the hair on the head or eyebrows does not match the color of the pubes.
But is red pubic hair common?
Just for this question, I’m going to assume that in most cases it is true that gingers have red pubic hair.
Now only 2% of the entire population on earth have red hair. So that automatically means that having red pubic hair is not that common!
So if you are someone with red hair and red pubic hair, or if you have a relationship with a man or woman who has this… Cherish them! They represent only a small amount of people on earth!
What Percentage Of The World Population Has Red Hair?
The frequency of people with red hair is the highest in Ireland. 10 to 30% of its people have red hair. Scotland comes in at a good second place with 10 to 25% of people with red hair. And of course, you might’ve guessed it… The third place is for Wales with 10 to 15% of the people with red hair!
Below the percentages in table form:
Country | Amount of people with red hair |
Ireland | 10 – 30% |
Scotland | 10 – 25% |
Wales | 10 – 15% |
So, did you always fancy vacation to the United Kingdom? You now have a great excuse!
Final Thoughts
The first thing that popped into my head after I asked the question to my friend was “why did I ask her that question!” After she wasn’t going crazy on me and just explained it, I felt relieved and was happy I finally knew! I hope you just had such a moment! Now you know and you can go on with your life :). Just for the last time so that you never forget it: People with red hair often have red pubic hair, but this doesn’t need to be the case.
