Can You Donate Hair If You Smoke Weed

If there’s one thing that I find wonderful it is people helping other people. Not only in times of the coronavirus, but just in general.

The other day I read an article about Locks of Love and how they help children who are suffering from medical hair loss.

It was fascinating to read stories about people who donated their hair so they can help children who are suffering. It was at that moment that I knew that I wanted to write a little bit about a question that might help in getting more wigs made for those kids!

The question that I found was: can you donate hair if you smoke weed?

Maybe you find it a weird question, but for me, it wasn’t weird. For me, this question stands for people who come from all walks of life and living standards that want to know how they can help.

So, not weird but beautiful.

So, can you donate hair if you smoke weed?

I’ve searched the web for a couple of hours and did not find any evidence that you can’t donate your hair when you smoke weed. The institutions that go about hair donations and wigs (Pantene beautiful lengths, Wigs for Kids, Ebeauty, Hair We Share, and Locks of Love) do not have a policy against donating your hair when you smoke weed.

You sometimes hear rumors about them drug testing your hair but this isn’t true. To drug test hair they would need the hair follicle (the root) and that is something they don’t cut off, so you’re in the clear.

So if you smoke but you really want to donate your hair, you can! There are however some other things that you have to consider regardless of your smoking or not.

Most of the institutions I talked about above can’t do anything with hair that is bleached, colored, or with dreadlocks. Gray hair however is fine. Just like permed hair. You can donate gray or permed hair if you want to.

So, the substance you use is not something that is a discussion point with the institutions you want to donate your hair too. Just know that you keep the other things in mind. Natural hair is just the thing they want :).

can you donate hair if you smoke cigarettes?

Now that we’ve discussed donating your hair when you smoke weed, you might want to know if you can also donate your hair when you smoke cigarettes.

We all know that smoking a cigarette is not good for your body, but did you also know it is not good for your hair as well? Regular smoking can cause hair loss. How?

Poor blood circulation

Hair follicles need oxygen, minerals, and nutrients to stay healthy and produce healthy hair. Smoking a cigarette releases toxic chemicals that can take a toll on your blood circulation and that affects your hair follicles. If they don’t get enough blood the hair growth cycle is interrupted.

A weaker immune system

Smoking can cause damage to your immune system. You can imagine that this can lead to all kinds of diseases and illnesses that can lead to hair loss.

Even though we all know that smoking is bad for you, you still can donate your hair if you want to. Just make sure that you keep it as healthy as possible. If your hair isn’t healthy enough they will tell you at the salon… But normally there’s no problem with using the hair of someone who smokes!

Best places to donate your hair

Now that you know that you can donate your hair even though you smoke weed or cigarettes, I know you want to know where you can do this!

There are a couple of charities that make free wigs and you have an institution like Locks of Love. I’ll set them out for you below.

Locks of Love

Locks of love is devoted to helping children who are suffering from medical hair loss. They mostly make wigs for children who are 21 or below and financially disadvantaged. These children are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. This ranges from an autoimmune disorder like alopecia to cancer survivors and victims of severe burns.

If that’s not a good cause to give your healthy hair so that you can help other people, I don’t know what is!

Pantene Beautiful Lengths

Pantene Beautiful Lengths is an organization that is probably one of the most widely known by women who choose to donate their hair.

With Pantene Beautiful Lengths you have to donate at least eight inches of healthy hair. They then make and distribute the wigs to the American Cancer Society Wig Bank. Then these wigs are provided free of charge to those who are eligible. To be eligible you need to be at least 18 years old and experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment.

A wonderful cause to donate your hair too!

Wigs for Kids
Wigsforkids.org

This organization stands specifically for kids who have lost their hair. The wigs are completely made of human hair and custom made for each child who gets a wig. The best thing about these wigs is that they are made so that they won’t come off! This way the children can play without any restrictions and can just be like other kids!

Wonderful, just wonderful!

Ebeauty

Ebeauty has a wig exchange program. It works like this: Women who do not have a use for their wig anymore donate their wigs to women who have lost their hair and cannot afford to buy a wig. They also help people who live in remote locations where they don’t have easy access to wigs.

They partnered up with lots of hospitals and other organizations to help people around the world! You can even mail in your wig!

Just a beautiful organization!

Hair We Share

Hair We Share is an organization that provides wigs to people of all ages! One of the amazing things they do is they provide wigs free of charge to people who have a condition that causes hair loss and are 18 years old or below. They also give wigs to adults that are in financial need.

Their motto is something that resonates with almost all of us I think. Their statement is “to help maintain the dignity, confidence, and self-esteem of those affected by medical hair loss.
