Can You Put Baby Oil In Your Hair Before Straightening It?

Is it a good idea to put baby oil in your hair before you straighten it?

Baby oil is originally made to help with various irritations that toddlers get from cribs and other surfaces like that. But did you know that it’s also used as a moisturizer for both toddlers and adults? It goes even further than that. because baby oil is also used on the hair for a variety of reasons. I’ll list them below for you quickly.

Baby oil is great for dry hair. But use it sparingly because too much of it can make your hair look greasy and heavy. It is also great to give your hair a neat shine. But here the same advice applies. Do not use too much because otherwise, it looks heavy and greasy.

Even though I knew the above, it never occurred to me that people also used baby oil in their hair before straightening their hair.

Do you want to know why and want to find out if it’s a good idea to do this? Then read on because below I’ll give you all the answers you need!

So, can you put baby oil in your hair before straightening it?

As with many things the answer is yes, you can. The question you need to ask yourself though is whether or not it is healthy for your hair to do this and if it gives you the end result you want. In the case of baby oil, I personally would say this is not a good idea.

Baby oil, as I have said before, has a tendency to be very greasy and heavy if you apply a little too much. Therefore I would say that generally, baby oil is not the best product to use. There are other oils that are specifically designed to have the right effects on your hair without the greasy after effects.

Is putting baby oil in your hair before straightening a good idea?
you can put baby oil in your hair before straightening it, but it is not the greatest thing to use. If you want to give it a go, however, I would advise you to not put too much in your hair because it gets greasy and heavy, fast.

With that said, you need to know that there are oils that are specifically designed to use with a hair straightener. There are oils like Argan oil that are great to use before you straighten it, and there are oils like coconut oil and Jojoba oil, which are great to use after you’ve straightened your hair. To find out more, I advise you to keep reading! Below I’ve set out for you which oils you can use when and why you should use them!

What are oils for straightening hair and when to apply one?

Simply put, these are any oils that you put on your hair at any stage of the hair straightening process. Nothing more and nothing less. But why is it important?

Putting oil on your hair when straightening is important because it maintains the health of your hair and helps in revitalizing your scalp for active hair growth.

As you might’ve guessed, there are a ton of oils out there to put into your hair, but not all of them are great for hair straightening. This is because (just like baby oil) every oil has its own components and works a little differently in the hair. That’s why some oils are great and others not so much when you want to use it for hair straightening.

Make sure to dive into which oil would be specifically great for you.

Applying oil before you straighten your hair

Applying oil into your hair right before you straighten it, is a great way to give your hair a boost with vitamins and protect your hair from heat burns and hot spots. There’s a wide debate going on but I want to say it once and for all:

Yes, you can apply oil to your hair before you straighten it.

But that does not mean that you can put any oil into your hair. You really have to be careful with which oil you’re going to use. Find the right oil and you’re off to a great start!

What is the right oil you ask?
When you look into it online, there are several hair experts who claim that Argan oil is the best option if you want to put some oil into your hair before you straighten it.

This is best because Argan oil is rich in vitamins (like vitamin E), minerals, and antioxidants. This oil not only makes your hair softer and more manageable, it also makes your hair healthies from the inside out and protects your hair from heat burns and hot spots.

The other great thing about this oil is the fact that it is lightweight. I told you earlier that using baby oil for a straightening session is not the best idea because it makes your hair heavy and greasy. However, argan oil is so lightweight that it doesn’t make your hair go greasy and flat.

They always say: save the best for last… The best thing about this oil is the fact that it has a high burning point. This makes Argan oil so great. It has a burning point that can go up to 400° F. That’s about 204° C. This allows you to style your hair without running the risk of damaging it.

The last thing why Argan oil is a good way to go is the fact that some other oils (with lower burning points) can have disastrous effects on your hair. Other oils often have lots of flammable gasses, free radicals, and other harmful chemicals which, when reaching their smoke point, can have not so nice results on your hair.

Argan oil is great before you start straightening your hair.

Applying oil after you’ve straightened your hair

Applying oil before hair straightening is a great idea. By now you know enough about that.

But, applying oil after you’ve straightened your hair is also a great idea. You can give your hair a chance to recover from the heating element you just put it through and make it healthy and shiny again.

The best oil that you can use in my opinion is coconut oil. Coconut oil has a great effect on your hair and can help repair itch scalps, brittle hair splits, and damages hair. Not only that, but it also encourages hair growth!

Besides that, coconut oils are also rich in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and all sorts of nutrients that promote healthy hair and a healthy scalp.

Why or why not take an oil that is specifically designed to use after straightening your hair?

I like coconut oil better because other oils like Almond oil, Marula oil, or Jojoba oil are great for specific hair problems. Some are great for split ends, some are best for hair loss, and so on… They solve a specific issue.

With coconut oil, you get all of them in one go.

Now, if you want to go for a specific problem then by all means go for something like baobab oil. It is great to treat an itchy scalp and also promotes hair growth.

I think that the best thing you can do is to find out what you want for your hair and what it needs.

If you want an all-in-one solution, then coconut oil is often your best bet. If you want something more specific, it is great to look into Jojoba oils, Marula oils, or Baobab oils.

Find out what works best for you. Do you have split ends? Then go for marula oil. It helps your hair to recover from hair breakage and split ends due to over-styling your hair.

Do you have dry hair? Go for jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is great for treating your dry hair and make you presentable again in a very short amount of time! It makes your hair smooth and manageable :).

Final thoughts

can you put baby oil in your hair before straightening it? No, you better not use baby oil for straightening your hair. Most likely it will not give you the effect you want. It is better for you to look into which oil works great for use before you straighten your hair. In my opinion, Argan oil is a great thing to use.

Using baby oil before you straighten your hair will often only make your hair look greasy and heavy. Sure, it will protect your hair to some degree, but it might not give the effect on your hair that you want.

If you’re in need of oil after you’ve straightened your hair, you can go a couple of routes. The most important thing, as you read above, is to look into what you think your hair needs. You know your hair best and can see and feel what it needs after straightening.

If you don’t know exactly, I would advise you to go to your local professional. He or she can take a look at your hair and see what you can do best to let your hair recover and look great again.

And as always… Be safe when you try these things out. It is better to do a little more research than to end up with results you don’t like!
